Our Curriculum Statement

Our Curriculum at Tintagel Primary School & Nursery

We follow a knowledge-engaged, enquiry-led curriculum, with inclusive learning at its heart. Every child is known, valued and supported to thrive in our nurturing environment. Our curriculum is deeply rooted in the context of our school.

In order to immerse our children in learning that is rich in context, memorable, relevant and challenging, we link our learning each term to a whole school enquiry - or ‘big question.’ This enquiry focus sits under the umbrella of one of our 12 core values and so, over a two year rolling programme, each core value is visited in depth. These values help children grow not just academically, but personally and socially too.

Enquiry lessons (usually History and Geography) are driven by a  key question, designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding and encourage critical thinking. This enquiry approach empowers children to explore, discover and make meaningful connections across subjects.

Our curriculum is shaped by seven key drivers:
High-quality texts, vocabulary, discovery, empowering every learner, pedagogy, knowledge and skills, and whole-school values. These principles underpin all aspects of learning and ensure a rich, inclusive and purposeful experience for every pupil.

Learning Warrior Tool Kit

Children are supported in developing independence and metacognitive skills through our Learning Toolkit — a set of learning dispositions that help them understand how to ‘learn to learn.’ Our tool-kit consists of:

·       Curiosity

·       Independence,

·       Empathy

·       Resilience

·       Leadership

·       Participation

·       Risk-taking

These are taught both explicitly through whole school assemblies, as well as throughout learning. Children are recognised in our weekly Tribe Assembly to be a ‘Learning Warrior’ if they have shown they have used an aspect of the learning tool kit to support them.

Life Long Learners

Our curriculum has been designed to be interactive and engaging, making full use of both indoor and outdoor spaces to bring concepts to life. Carefully chosen high quality texts sit at the heart of our curriculum, enriching learning and inspiring a love of reading for life.

Most importantly, our curriculum is designed to empower every learner and build the knowledge and skills needed for success in an ever-changing world. Through inclusive practice and high expectations, we ensure that every child feels valued, challenged, and supported to achieve their full potential. By weaving together discovery, creativity and a love of learning, we prepare our pupils not only for academic achievement but for life - confident, resilient and ready to make a positive difference.
